Empowerment of rural women is the most important development issue at the movement. RDC Nepal has organized Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) training under Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Humanitarian Preparedness Project funded by OXFAM Nepal. One day GESI training for each WEG organized in Gaur, Rautahat from 15 August 2018 to 29 Aug 2018 to 10 WEG.
The main aim of the training was to provide knowledge on gender equality and social inclusion in changing the context of Nepal and provide orientation on new Act 2074 regarding gender-based violence and social inclusion issues to WEG group members.

- To provide basic information about laws related to gender-based violence.

- To aware group member about social inclusion and its legal provision in a different sector.

Process and Activities of Learning
Welcome speech with a highlight of training objective had been done by the RDC Nepal program coordinator. Followed by an introduction and icebreaking session between participants, facilitators and organizers, rules and regulation had been set by participants for effective conduction of the training. After one round of one warm-up session, training had been started with brainstorming on sex, gender and its differences. At that time knowledge was imparted on the topic with some case study and different examples. To assess the existing status of women within the family and community, a discussion was made on a daily household chore and analyzed workload of women, its value in monitory terms and involvement of women in financial activities. They realized that they worked from early morning to mid-night in a home but have not decision making role and has not recognized their work as productive work. Then group discussion was conducted on causes and effect of low status of women in home and community, way out for changes and improvement of the situation. Participants discussed also on gender tree in the group.
The second session was started after tea break with sharing of experiences and incidents related to gender-based violence, happened in their home and community. Then participants discussed about gender-based violence, its causes and how it can be minimized, what are the new Act & Laws have been regarding gender-based violence. During session, a case study has been shared about sexual violence and discussed the consequences developed after an event has occurred.
Some pictures and visuals were showed to the participants. A discussion had been made on equity and equality. During the session participants assessed the real situation of social inclusion in different sectors of the society and facilitator highlighted on positive discrimination and other possibilities and provisions for social inclusion and equity. As well as the discussion was also made on the necessity of participation of women, dalit and other disadvantaged people in planning implementation, monitoring and benefit sharing process in any event and programs.
At last of the session, self-evaluation activities had been carried out through the different games and question answer. The training was wrapped up with summarizing of whole day sessions.
Impression from participates
- Training was very useful to empower us but the duration is too short;
- It is better to conduct this type of training for other women in the community level and also for a male to improve the situation of gender and social inclusion status.
An impression of trainer:
- Majorities of participants were actively participated in the training and committed to making a behavioural change regarding the gender and social inclusion;
- Pictorial and visual materials, case study, storytelling and role play was very useful during sessions;
- Participants were more interested in new laws and legal provision related to gender, violence and social inclusion.
